The diagnosis of infective hepatitis and its sequelae.

A. Acute Infective Hepatitis (i) The pre-icteric phase, with pyrexia and intestinal manifestations dominating the picture. (ii) The icteric phase, with jaundice as the dominant manifestation. The type varies from the fulminating to the average type of case with jaundice lasting two to three weeks. (iii) The post-hepatitis syndrome, the stage of symptoms without signs. (iv) Infective hepatitis without icterus. (Homologous serum jaundice and postarsphenamine jaundice are included for the purpose of discussion under the heading of acute infective hepatitis.)
